Leather Care

Leather oil
with lanolin

To avoid rubbing the finish off or scratching the grain of the leather of a new saddle, do not ride in the saddle until it has been properly oiled.
The purpose of oiling the saddle before use is for comfort and prevention of wear and tear rather to achieve coloration.
With a soft brush or a sponge, spread generously a thin coat of warm (not hot) HRÍMNIR leather oil over ALL non-suede part of the saddle, upside and backside. Do not forget the billets and billets guard. However do not soak the seat, kneepads and panels with oil, especially through the breathing holes of the backside of kneepads, as the spongy foam might reject the excess oil for some time. In case of suede seat and/or kneepads, do not oil them and put masking tape around these parts. Let the oil penetrate for 24 hours, leaving the saddle
in a dry place.
After this, remove carefully the excess oil with a cloth.
Attention: Oil your stirrup leathers in the same way because dry stirrup leather are very abrasive and might damage the grain with friction.

Clean daily with a damp sponge and HRÍMNIR glycerine saddle soap after use.
Attention: Let the saddle dry before placing the waterproof saddle cover on the saddle.
If your saddle is properly oiled in the beginning and regularly cleaned with HRÍMNIR glycerine saddle soap, it will be sufficiently water repellent to avoid white marks if exposed to rain or mud splash. However remove immediately excess water with a cloth, as excess rain or splash spots might leave pale marks when drying.
Clean stirrup leathers equally.
Eventually clean suede parts by brushing them energetically with a special suede brush as one does with suede shoes.
